LOW KEY MUSIC
This Month's Featured Repair:
Every so often I showcase a repair just to display some of our workmanship or to show some of the interesting instruments that come through our shop.
There are few instruments that command the dedicated following such as the Selmer Mk. VI saxophones. Selmer manufactured these for nearly 20 years. With that said, it is usually considered an abomination to refinish one. However, there may come a time when even a once desireable instrument just seems lifeless. Sometimes we just like to see something great come out of what seems to be ready to be retired.
This particular Mk. VI tenor had been refinished at least once before and possibly more than once judging by the condition of the engraving. As part of the restoration, we had the engraving restored. One key had to be completely reconstructed. We also used Roo pads to get the most sound out of it. The final result looks much like an original unmolested Mk. VI
